Danielle Lautrec – Genealogy Educator & Family History Research Expert
I help genealogists become better researchers—more confident, more skilled, and more successful in their search for ancestors, evidence and stories. Through my online genealogy courses, blog posts, presentations and practical tools, I teach people how to improve the quality of their family history research.
I’m a genealogy educator based in Sydney, Australia, with university qualifications in history, family history, historical archaeology, and town planning. I’ve worked in research and policy analysis, and I now focus on education and support for the genealogy community, helping people make sense of sources, develop research strategies, and use tools like DNA analysis, Excel and Notion.
At the Society of Australian Genealogists, I’ve served as Education Officer and Archives Officer, and I continue to support both roles as a volunteer. I teach the Society’s popular Research Methods courses and convene groups on DNA research and Legacy Family Tree software.
In 2022, I published The Good Genealogist, a practical guide to better family history research. My blog, Generations Genealogy, offers tips, tools, instructions and case studies for genealogists of all skill levels.
My personal research interests include convict ancestors, early Sydney history, local and social history, and the improving the discipline of family history. My own family history includes English, Scottish, Irish, German, Swiss, French, Jamaican and Chinese ancestry. You can read more about my family at Rustenivy – A History of an Australian family.
