Genealogy Research Methods course 2026
I will be teaching research methods again in 2026! Watch this space for details and registration information.
Beginners Research Methods course
Are you fairly new to family history or been researching for less than three years? Do you know the basics, but need some ongoing support to develop your core research skills?
This course is currently underway for 2025.
In this online course, you work on your own family history under my guidance over a period of eight months. Included in the course are two lectures, two workshops and six group discussion sessions (fourteen contact hours in total). Learn to plan your research, identify research priorities and research questions, cite your sources and develop other important research skills. Each technique is applied to your own family history, to help you progress your research.
Intermediate Research Methods course
This course is currently underway for 2025.
Have you been researching your family history for around three years or more?
Are you ready to strengthen your core research skills to tackle those difficult research problems? If your answer to both these questions is yes then come along to my online Intermediate Research Methods course.
In this intermediate to advanced level course we explore:
• Research planning
• Analysis
• Documentation
Participants choose a case study from their own family history to work on throughout the course. The sessions include a combination of lectures, workshops and practical exercises.
Legacy Software Users Group
The Society’s Legacy Group sessions are suitable for beginners and also experienced users. Sessions are recorded, so you can attend live or watch the recording later. Copies of the slides are also provided.
Meeting dates for 2026 will be added soon.
